In support of a client's implementation of a Six Sigma program, MSI performed a series of in-depth reviews of the various process owners. The purpose of the reviews was to provide an independent assessment of organizational progress in applying the skills related to process mapping and characterization, measurement selection, data acquisition, data integrity and overall process improvement. The reviews were conducted roughly semi-annually over a two year time frame, with criteria established and promulgated in advance to "set the bar" on performance expectations.
For each review, a rating was assigned to each participant, describing their performance as: Needs Significant Improvement, Needs Improvement, Adequate, Strong or Superior. Scores below Adequate in any of the evaluated categories generated a specifically designed Manager's Work Plan to close the gaps for the individual, followed by a re-audit within sixty days.
Progressive in their design, the reviews have been a critical factor in assuring that the management personnel are using the tools and techniques that were taught during their Six Sigma training. In addition to providing an objective, independent review of each process owner in the company, the in-depth reviews created a series of galvanizing events that resulted in accelerated progress compared to other organizational change initiatives.
