Although budgets are tight, the necessity of having the right information at the right place continues to drive new system implementations and/or enhancements. Aggressive time frames are established, mandating the need for quick assessments of business processes and system requirements. Many packaged solutions, as well as in-house development projects, are designed upon best practices and although well-intentioned, may not mesh well with current business processes. Inertia around the current process can make it difficult for users to articulate requirements without holding on to the current methods. Somewhat ameliorated by new techniques around rapid requirements development, a gap still exists between user expectations and the delivered information product. In some cases, the desire for technology changes to drive cost-reduction supersedes the responsibility of satisfying the user community, creating a rift between various business functions and the technology provider. The shared objective by business functions and technology is to ensure smooth software application implementation which results in user acceptance and risk assessment/mitigation. Significant value can be achieved by implementing a user's perspective audit team and employing risk readiness techniques.
